Wasabi was designed and built for the Melbourne to Osaka short-handed race for the previous Mooloolaba based owner. Current owner Bruce McKay purchased Wasabi in June 2008 and has competed in a number of east coast races including three Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Races, the 2009 Pittwater to Coffs Harbour and Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Races as well as the 2008, 2009 and 2010 summer offshore series at her home club, the Cronulla Sailing Club. During 2011 Wasabi competed in the CYCA Blue Water Series along with several CYCA Winter Series. Wasabi has also successfully campaigned two seasons with the SSAA (Short Handed Sailing Association of Australia).
Wasabi has completed three Rolex Sydney to Hobart Races with two podium finishes including 1st in PHS Division #1 in 2010 and a top 30 line honors result in 2011.
Wasabi will be competing in the Two Handed Division for the Noumea race with both crew from the Cronulla Sailing Club in Sydney.
As always, the Wasabi crew will be hoping for an off the breeze race to take advantage of her light weight and high downwind speeds.
